Hello friends and neighbors,
My name is Lupe Marroquin and I'm running for State House in the South Anchorage/Hillside area - District 31.
I’ve lived in Anchorage for 34 years with 12 of those years in Hillside/South Anchorage - so I know the neighborhood. I'm married, raised our family here and put two kids through college. I'm very proud of my family and my 5 grandchildren.
I retired July of 2009 from a 30 year career with the State & Municipality. I spent 24 of those years in public finance working for DOT & DHSS in public finance, management accounting and budget analysis; and the other six years I was in charge of running municipal elections. During my whole professional career, I’ve been taking care of the public’s money and taking care of your right to vote.
I have a career history of ethics, integrity and getting the job done.
I’m running for two reasons,
First, the Legislature has just passed the largest budget in decades while our oil production is in sharp decline. That concerns me. I believe that we should have a budget built more on stabiity and sustainability and planning for our future economic benefits; rather than spending it all now. I’ve had 24 years working in public finance with the State of Alaska Department of Health & Social Services and Department of Transportation, I have seen where the money goes and I know there are better ways to manage funding and build our economy.
Second, I am very concerned about our public safety. In recent years, the level of violence in crimes in Anchorage has risen, it’s happening all across town. South Anchorage used to being one of the safest neighborhoods in town, but we are now getting our share. I want to do what I can to get our neighborhoods safe and keep them safe. I want to preserve our way of life.
It’s a perfect time for me. My career has been prepared me for this challenge. I have the skills, experience, the time and the energy to serve. I've lived on a tight budget my whole life, raising a family, getting my kids through school and college, keeping a home and staying employed; and I‘ve worked for you in many ways my whole career.
I know what it means to listen and seek out solutions together.
It would be an honor to represent you in Juneau.
I would appreciate your vote.
